Py{1:thon, 2:Dev, 3:game}

My friend PedroDaRos is creating a very interesting project called RottzTV, a clone of the classic game MadTV, for that he has now a Source Forge project and already a bunch of java files.

I'm very pleased to have being invited by him to be a commiter. My contributions so far can be resumed to basic scaffold stuff like adding log4j and adding missing constructors to Exceptions :)

He has just sent me a very interesting link where a hobbyist (but experienced) game developer relates his journal data of 40 hours building a simple game from scratch.

So far I've downloaded the source code (written in python) and as expected I've installed the PyDev eclipse plugins and I think it is a very neat Python IDE with a lot of features that makes development much more pleasant:
  • Code completion;
  • Basic refactorings:
    • Rename;
    • Extract Method;
    • Override/Implement methods;
  • F3 and Ctrl+Mouse click works to navigate from method invocation to declaration;
  • Outline view;
  • Collapse and folding of classes, methods and comments;

After installing the pygame module I could just click on the play button and see the project running :)
